kangaroo’s that call anglesea home

A unique attraction at Anglesea is the golf club resident kangaroos - about 300 of them! These Eastern Grey mobs don’t mind their photo taken, and you may be lucky enough to see a joey hopping into mum’s pouch too.

The Golf Club offers buggy tours track them down & see where they’re sunning themselves along the fairways, while dodging the golf balls flying around of course! This unusual combination of grazing wildlife, greenkeeping & golf balls works extremely well surprisingly.

& the most incredible gourmet chocolaterie & ice creamery

Before you embark on the jaw-dropping scenery travelling down the Great Ocean Road you must stop at Bellbrae for eye-opening gourmet delights or barista coffee - whatever works best for you!

I can’t possibly list all the inventive flavour combos, as well as traditional favourites they have to offer as there are literally thousands, so many you need to come see for yourself… and taste (they offer free tastings of chocolate varieties & ice-creams). They even have a signature ‘Great Ocean Road’ range with artwork you’ll become familiar with on your travels today.

Watch the European Chocolatiers at work behind the big window to see how they craft, or wander the expansive gardens to see some key ingredients growing.

anglesea attractions

Anglesea is a quiet country town near the start of the Great Ocean Road with its main shops & restaurants set back from the ocean and a family-friendly calm riverbank waterway that extends out to the sea behind the dunes.

You can hire a canoe or paddle-boat to get some leg excersizes done while on holidays, or a stand-up-paddleboard if you have the balance in these ideal placid waters - a far cry from neighbouring towns with pro surf breaks which makes this town a real haven for young families looking for weekend fun not too far travelling from Melbourne.

WE VISIT ANGLESEA & the chocolaterie ON ALL OUR DAY TRIPS TO THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD

we don’t just drive past the chocolaterie!

From Torquay we call into this heavenly place for just a moment to treat ourselves to gourmet snacks for the day & taste the varieties,

perhaps a barista espresso coffee - the good stuff - is what you need. No stress if you missed breakfast, here you can get fresh made croissants, pastries, scones or a hearty egg & bacon roll to fill the tank…

to get the senses going of course as we’re now travelling on the Great Ocean Road & your eyes will want to be open now to hopefully spot a kangaroo or 50 next as we pass by the Anglesea golf course to see who’s up today for a photo.

More info (& to prepare yourself!) for the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery as there is something for everyone - if you can’t resist temptation then it’s best you stay outside in the lovely gardens & hang for a moment with the speckled variety of roos, you’re welcome to enjoy BYO snacks with this view too.
