visit AIREYS INLET & see THE REMARKABLE architecture of ‘the POLE HOUSE’

You wouldn’t be afraid of heights if you rented this astonishing all windows room for the night on AirBnB - it’s listed literally as ‘The Pole House’ and with these panoramic views who wouldn’t want to walk that plank at the back to access the building?

VISIT THE POLE HOUSE

SEE THE FAMOUS LIGHTHOUSE ON SPLIT POINT

You may actually already know this Lighthouse if your from the UK as the TV show called Round The Twist was filmed here inside it. It premiered in 1990 and ran on BBC TV for over a decade, some say a rather strange family show but it was based on a novel that Aussie kids were taught in some schools.

This coastal hamlet was rocked by bushfires in February of 1983 that was titled ‘Ash Wednesday’ due to the major loss & destruction it caused in Australia.

Over 100 fires swept across Victoria and South Australia, joining together killing 75 people and causing widespread damage. High temperatures, intense winds, and low summer rainfall caused a high fire danger in Victoria's eucalypt forests.

A total of 47 people died in Victoria and 2,080 homes were destroyed. Many businesses, stores, equipment, machinery, stock, and other private assets were also destroyed. The total cost of the property-related damage in Victoria was estimated to be over $200 million.
